To develop an advanced thermal managing material (TMM) which can effectively transfer the problematic heat in the electronic devices, rod-shaped liquid crystal (LC) was newly synthesized for outstanding thermal conductivity. Synthesized LC formed a smectic A (SmA) mesophase between crystalline and isotropic phases. The thermal conducting LC films were fabricated by the photopolymerization in both liquid crystal and isotropic phases. Regardless of the molecular packing structures, the LC films exhibited outstanding thermal conductivity over 1 W/mK due to their lattice structure of the core. In addition, the heat transfer ability of LC film can be amplified in a certain direction by the uniaxial aligment of LC molecules in the network. The LC films can be used as TMM for electronic devices due to their outstanding heat transfer performance.
