The objectives of this research were to optimally fractionate lignin and formic acid in liquid by alkali treatment and esterification. Pine cones were prepared 50 oC for 24 h, and 100 g cones were reacted in a 1L Parr reactor. Cones were mixed in different ratios 1%, 2%, 4%, 6%, 8% with alkali solutions. The reactions were performed at H-factor 900 with temperature 170 oC. As the alkali charge increase, the content of lignin in liquid to extracted increased while the remaining content in solids decreased, also content of formic acid in liquid presented very high. 10 mL liquid were mixed with ethanol in water bath under various parameters. (mixed ratios: 1:1-1:4, reaction temperature range: 30-45 oC, reaction time range: 40-100 min.) The solution was separated into mixed ethanol (ethyl formate, ethanol)and residues by distillation. |
