Preparation of environmentally robust black phosphorene nanosheets through simple sonication treatment in ionic liquids |

Recently, exfoliation of van-der Waals-bonded inorganic analogues including black phosphorus (BP) has shown great potential for the applications such as field effect transistor, anisotropic transport, and optoelectronic devices because of its intrinsic band gap ranging from 0.31 eV (bulk) to 2 eV (single layer) and high charge carrier mobility of the resulting few-layer BP. In this research, the liquid phase exfoliation of bulk BP crystals was carried out through tip-sonication treatment in two representative ionic liquids (ILs) as dispersing media. Prepared BP nanosheets have lateral dimensions more than several hundred nm along with the staking of less than 20 layers. Remarkably, high oxidation resistance of few-layer BP flakes was accomplished due to physically interacting IL molecules on the surface of BP nanosheets. |
