In this paper, we propose a method for estimating the non–random two–liquid (NRTL) binary parameters for liquid–liquid equilibrium (LLE) systems by introducing the basic principle of phase separation, the minimum Gibbs free energy of mixing at the interface, and directly solving the phase equation for the conventional K-value method. A direct solution for the phase equation, which replaces an iterative procedure in the conventional method, simplifies the computation and improves the stability of the parameter estimation. Further, the inclusion of the Gibbs energy minimization ensures the generation of the ternary diagram required for the extraction process design using commercial design programs. The mean deviations between the measured data and computed values from the estimated parameters were significantly less than those in previous studies, and the proposed procedure was applicable for all three types of ternary diagrams in the LLE systems. |
