Bitumen is unconventional oil that has high viscosity, density, and is recovered from oil sands. Asphaltene is the cheapest fraction in bitumen and it was ozonized to have hydrophlicity to facilitate precipitation of asphaltene in paraffinic froth treatment. Froth treatment is conducted to seperate asphaltene from bitumen with water and paraffin. Asphaltene causes plugging and corrosion in refinement process. Thus, it must be removed from feed. Because the aggregation property of asphaltene can be changed by using additive, we used ozonized asphaltene as an additive to adjust the aggregation property of asphaltene. Ozonized asphaltene was added to water/n-pentane/bitumen emulsion to facilitate precipitation of asphaltene in bitumen. Evaluation of the quality of deasphaltened oil was measured performed. Also, the interaction between asphaltene and ozonized asphaltene was proved by measuring size of cluster in toluene. |
