Hollow nanoparticles-embedded non-volatile electrolytes in dye-sensitized solar cells |

DSSCs have been considered as one of the promising new energy source capable of low production cost for the high-energy conversion efficiency.In the light of stability, non-volatile electrolytes including ionic liquid and oligomer based electrolytes have large merits compared with the conventional volatile electrolytes.The formers, however, contains efficiency limit derived from their low ionic diffusion. The addition of nanoparticles with ion transfer activity into the electrolyte is considered as a promising route to solve the problem. In this study, it was attempted to add TiO2 hollow nanoparticles into the electrolyte for the purpose to modify ion diffusion and light scattering effect. As expected, the electrolyte with the TiO2 hollow nanoparticles showed enhanced ionic diffusion rate along with the light harvesting effect induced by additional scattering effect, resulting in superior energy conversion efficiency to those prepared without the nanoparticles. |
