Outdoor insulation for high voltage require materials with anti-wear properties that are superior to those of other insulating materials such as epoxy resins. Recently, many studies have reported hydrophobic surfaces using nanostructures. In this study, we used a cycloaliphatic epoxy resin and modified natural silica fillers surface passivated with organosilane coupling agents. Three different silanes, methyltrimethoxysilane(MTMS), glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane(GPS), and tridecafluoro-1,1,2,2-tetrahydrooctyl trimethoxysilane(FTEOS) were used and the amount of silane coupling agent were optimized for surface treatment of silica microparticles. Surface wettability was measured by contact angle, mechanical property analysis, and rheology measurements were conducted to compare and evaluate the effect of surface passivation agent on silica microparticles when composited with epoxy matrices. |
