초록 Membrane distillation (MD) can be one of alternative desalination candidates with its many advantages over SWRO. In a MD process, water evaporates at the interface of a microporous hydrophobic membrane, diffuses across the membrane, and condenses through the opposite side of the system in distilled permeate. A MD process requires low energy needs below 1 kwh/m3 if there is wasted heat available. In addition, a foot print of the system can be remarkably reduced compared to that of a thermal process. When comparing to a RO, salt rejection efficiency is much higher. A membrane fouling is not associated with a MD process because it is not a pressure-driven process like a RO unit. In this study, the development of high flux membrane and optimized module for  a MD process with porous membrane was exhibited. Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) hollow fiber membranes were prepared with a hybrid process of thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) and stretching, which is very unique.사사
