Hydrogels have shown great potential as a delivery vehicle of many theraperutics, including classical drugs, proteins, and genes. Ferrogels responding to changes in magnetic fields also provide a useful means for on-demand delivery of various drugs and/or cells. In this study, drug-loaded, alginate-based ferrogels were prepared by simlying mixing an alginate solution containing drugs with iron oxide nanoparticles, followed by ionic cross-linking with calcium ions. The deformation of alginate-based ferrogels, as well as the drug release from the gels in vitro were regulated when the magnetic field was applied. |
