제목 Oxidation resistance characteristics of SiC-coated carbon fiber using silica sol
초록   Carbon fiber is an excellent material in a high temperature environment, but it is weak against oxidation corrosion. In this study, to improve oxidation resistance properties, SiC coation was applied on a carbon fiber using a silica sol. In the process of forming SiC through the reaction between silica and carbon, some carbon is carried in the form of CO gas. Therefore, it is very important to control the amount of silica sol to minimize damage to carbon fibers. Morphology and crystallinity was analyzed with FESEM and XRD, and oxidation resistance properites were checked by mass loss method in an air condition. As a result, on the surface of carbon fiber, tens of nano thick SiC thin films were formed and oxidation resistance was improved.
