Fabrication of stable hydrophobic and bio-based silica hybrid micro-nanocomposites surfaces |

In this study, lotus leaf (LL) powder was used to fabricate stable hydrophobic and bio-based hybrid micro-nanocomposites surfaces with polymethylhydroxysiloxane (PMHOS) and hydrophilic silica nanoparticles (SiNPs) or amino functionalized silica ormosils (ASiOr 1 or ASiOr 2). The LL powder dried at various drying temperatures was used to prepare the hybrid micro-nanocomposites. The hybrid material was analyzed in various characterization techniques. The hybrid micro-nanocomposites showed stable hydrophobic properties to water on a glass substrate and no significant change in the hydrophobicity by varying the drying temperature of LL powder or by varying the functionalized silica nano particles or silica ormosils. The obtained results indicate that the stable hydrophobic hybrid micro-nanocomposites surfaces can be prepared even by increasing the drying temperature of LL or by varying the amount and kinds of silica nano particles or silica ormosils in the hybrid micro-nanocomposites. |
