Simultaneous Activation of Methane and CO2 |

Simultaneous activation of methane and CO2 is one of the most difficult challenge for getting oxygenates, because of their inertness and thermodynamically unfavorability. However, the first step in the activation of methane is the C-H bond activation and CO2 activation is requiring hydrogen source, so there may be a chance to activate simultaneously. In this study we have successfully illustrated the possibility of formation of methanol using CO2 as well as O2/CO2 for the direct insertion of CO2 to get acetic acid and partial oxidation into methanol, respectively. Specially, it could be performed in the continuous flow fixed-bed reactor over Cu loaded ZSM-5 catalysts (Cu-M+-ZSM-5). DFT calculation also support that methane could be homolytically dissociated into give surface hydrogen and methyl-M species to be reacted with activated CO2 into methanol and/or acetic acid. |
