Surface of zinc oxide nanorods was modified with metal salt, and the resulting layer was applied to photoanodes of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The photovoltaic properties of DSSC with the surface-modified ZnO nanorods were compared to those of a reference cell without any surface modification. As a result, the surface modification led to a considerable enhancement in open circuit voltage of DSSC, probably due to an retardation of the interfacial charge recombination between photoinjected electrons and triiodide ions in the electrolyte, resulting in an improved power conversion efficiency. |
