Polystyrene (PS) is one of the most widely used polymers. Many researchers have been interested in the PS / organic clay nanocomposite because of its good mechanical and thermal properties. In this study, PS / clay nanocomposites were synthesized by emulsifier-free emulsion polymerization. The content of clay based on the styrene monomer was adjusted from 0 to 5 wt%. APS (ammonium persulfate) and AEMH (2-amino ethyl methacrylate hydrochloride) were used as initiator and comonomer, respectively. The product (PS-clay) was analyzed by XRD (x-ray diffractometer) , TEM (transmission electron microscope) and FT-IR, etc.
