Ag-plasma polymer fluorocarbon (PPFC) nanocomposite thin film with superhydrophobic and antibacterial properties |

Designing surfaces with both superhydrophobic and antibacterial properties can help reduce initial bacterial attachment and subsequent the spread of infections. In this study, Ag-plasma polymer fluorocarbon (PPFC) nanocomposite thin films were fabricated using a mid-range frequency dual sputtering method with a ternary CNT-Ag-PTFE composite target. Ag nanoparticles of 6 to 8 nm in diameter were uniformly distributed in the PPFC matrix. The Ag-PPFC thin film was found excellent antibacterial activity against bacterial growth and propagation for Staphyloccocus aureus by 92.2% compared to uncoated substrate. This is due to the hydrophobic of the PPFC matrix and antibacterial of Ag nanoparticles. In reality, the Ag-PPFC thin film on fabric also exhibited an excellent water repellency more than 142° due to low surface energy of the PPFC matrix. Also, the transmittance of Ag-PPFC thin film on PET is more than 91% at 550nm due to low refractive index of the film and index matching effect. |
