A Study of Rapid Removal of Cr(VI) in Aqueous Solution with Conducting Polymer |

This study presents the removal characteristics of Cr(VI) with polyaniline. Various oxidation states of polyaniline were used for reduction of highly toxic Cr(VI) to less toxic Cr(III). About 50 mol% of HCl was doped onto polyaniline calculated with elementary analysis data. The effects of various parameters such as treating time, solution pH, dosage of polyaniline and initial Cr(VI) concentration on efficiency of reduction/adsorption process were investigated. The functional group of polyaniline was determined by FT-IR spectroscopy. The concentration of Cr(VI) in solution was measured after different treating times. A spectrophotometric technique was used for determination of Cr(VI) concentration in solution at pH≥12 (λmax =374 nm). The removal rate of Cr(VI) increased with increasing the dosage of polyaniline. The total concentration of Cr(VI) was decreased with treating time. More than 99% of Cr(VI) can be removed by 0.2 g polyaniline within 5 min from 200 mL of 100 ppm solution. |
