Physical-electrical properties of epoxy composites reinforced with fluorinated MWCNTs |

Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)/epoxy composites are prepared by depending on various fluorination concentrations of MWCNTs. The mechanical properties, fracture surface morphologies and the electromagnetic interference shielding efficiency (EMI-SE) of these composites are evaluated for an epoxy matrix with various fluorination conditions of MWCNTs. The fluorinated MWCNTs/epoxy composites showed ~31% enhancement of the tensile strength as compared to that of unmodified composites and also the EMI-SE was improved. As a consequence, significant enhancements in the mechanical properties and the electrical properties are attributed to the fluorination of MWCNTs, which results for improvements of dispersion and adhesion of epoxy composites.
