Modification of PEDOT:PSS Layer by Size-Tunable, Polymer Nanospheres Towards Mechanically-Robust and Air-Stable Polymer Solar Cells |

We developed a facile and powerful approach to achieve the mechanically robust and air stable polymer solar cells (PSCs) by modifying the PEDOT:PSS film with hydrophobic polystyrene nanospheres (PS NSs) that had three different sizes, i.e., 60, 80, and 100 nm. The cross-linked PS NSs can function as (1) binders between the PEDOT:PSS polymers in the PEDOT:PSS film and (2) interfacial modifiers between the hydrophilic PEDOT:PSS ABL and the hydrophobic active layer. Interestingly, the degree of enhancement in the interfacial adhesion between the PEDOT:PSS and the active films in PSCs and stability could be controlled by tuning the size of the PS NSs. In addition, the surface properties of the PS NSs incorporated PEDOT:PSS (PS NS-PEDOT:PSS) films were strongly dependent on the size of the PS NSs and their particle number density in the film. |
