One of the components of the redox flow battery, the electrode has a great influence on performance. When chloric/sulfuric mixed acid electrolyte was used for Fe2+/Fe3+ and V2+/V3+ redox couple reactions, capacity, coulombic efficiency(CE) and energy efficiency(EE) were compared according to the electrodes. GFD 4EA showed relatively good EE(>85%) and charge/discharge capacity. Based on these results, GFD 4EA was selected to investigate the electrochemical performance according to the activation temperature. The activation temperature was changed from 400 ℃ to 700 ℃ and the electrode mass and electrochemical performance were compared. When the activation temperature was 500 ℃, the mass retention rate of 99.0 % after activation, while the activation temperature was 600 ℃ and 700 ℃, 89.0 % and 58.3 % respectively, resulting in changes in the shape and structure of the electrode surface, and thus reduced performance due to increased interfacial resistance. |
