Recently, nanoscale structures such as semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) and gold-nano particles have been conjugated to various biological macromolecules.Since the size of nanoparticle is critically related to its absorption and emission properties, characterization of the size of the nanoparticles as well as their conjugated forms are of great interest. Centrifugation is an increasingly important technique for nanomaterial processing, and most recently, analytical ultracentrifugation (AU) has been utilized by some researchers to characterize the polydispersity of nanoparticles. In this work, we present the results of particle size distribution analysis for gold-nanoparticle and CdSe/ZnS QDs and their bioconjugates by AU techniques. |
