Phase behavior of surfactant-based ternary mixtures is examined with a lattice model and semi-grand canonical ensemble Monte Carlo simulation. The model accounts for the following; adsorption of surfactant molecules at interfaces, orientations and amphiphilicity of the surfactants, and notably, independent interactions of hydrophilic and lipophilic groups. The proposed model yields oleic or aqueous, lamellar, square and 2-dimensional surfactant crystal phases. If the interaction of hydrophilic group is larger than that of lipophilic group, liquid crystal phase is observed, which has been unreported, yet. |
