제목 Chromatographic Characterization of Star-shaped Polystyrene
초록 Star polymers have different rheological and mechanical properties from their linear analogues. In the molecular level, star polymers have a larger number of chain ends and smaller hydrodynamic size than their linear counterpart of equivalent molar mass. This study is to find a better way of fractionating star polymers according to the molar mass and chain architecture including number of branches and branch length. Interaction chromatography (IC) can be effective for the purpose while conventional size exclusion chromatography (SEC) is not. Model star-shaped polystyrenes are prepared by anionic polymerization of styrene and subsequent linking of the polystyryl anions by divinyl benzene. Star-shaped polystyrenes are characterized in detail by combination of SEC and IC separations coupled with multiple detections.
