제목 Electrospinning of Soy protein isolate : mechanical characterization and cytocompatible
초록 Soya, a natural protein, can be used as a biodegradable polymer in the biomedical field with advantages being non-animal derived, abundant in nature or renewable and highly bioactive. It has also been determined to have high potential as a scaffold for tissue regeneration. In this study we isolated and characterized soya protein as a base polymer combined with poly(ethylene oxide) to fabricate nanofiber membranes through electrospinning. Poly(ethylene oxide) was added in order to facilitate the formation of homogeneous fibers. Isolation and membrane fabrication parameters were optimized and different cell lines (L929, MC3T3-E1 etc.) were cultured on the membranes to test for scaffold cytocompatibility. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) of soya protein isolate confirmed successful isolation. Soya protein and poly(ethylene oxide) ratio had significant effects on the fiber’s form and diameter analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results, soya protein isolate nanofiber membrane had an average fiber diameter of 100-250 nm. Tensile strength and contact angle of sample membranes were tested for mechanical property and wettability respectively. Contact angle measurement was also performed to determine surface energy and effect of the presence of soya protein on the cells. Cell adhesion and morphology of the different cells cultured on the soya protein membrane were observed via confocal microscopy
