Chitosan is an attractive biomaterial for drug delivery system due to its biocompatibility and degradability. poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) is a representative polymer with thermosensitivity around 32℃. Chitosan-based thermosensitive hydrogel was prepared by grafting N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) to water-soluble chitosan (WSC) using ceric ammonium nitrate (CAN) as the initiator. Thus, chitosan-g-NIPAAm copolymer possesses both biocompatibility and thermosensitive properties. In this study, we fabricated copolymer beads using sol-gel transition in aqueous solution at 37℃ and investigated in vitro release profiles of two model drugs (Bovine Serum Albumin, 5-fluorouracil) for chitosan-g-NIPAAm copolymers beads. Obtained results suggest that thermosensitive chitosan copolymer can be effectively used as drug delivery carrier.
