Superhydrophobic surfaces exhibit anti-smudge, anti-sticking, anti-icing, and self-cleaning. Superhydrophobic surfaces with nanostructured morphologies were fabricated by irradiating nano silica particles with ion beam. The ion beam irradiation method is employed to get insight into the irradiation effect on surface morphology and surface properties of glass substrates. The obtained surface exhibited superhydrophobicity with a higher static contact angle (greater than 150°) and a lower sliding angle (less than 10°). The surface properties have been investigated using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). This method provides a means to control surface morphology. |
