A series of poly(ether ester) based thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) were synthesized by using dimethyl-2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylate (NDC) as hard segment. poly(tetramethylene ether glycol) with a molecular weight of 1000 as soft segment and 1,4-butanediol (BDO) as chain extender. For achieving the flame retardant properties of the elastomers we were incorporated Isobutyl bis(hydroxypropyl)phosphine oxide (IHPO) with NDC units as a chain extender together with BDO. The relative composition of IHPO was changed from 10 to 30% with respect to the BDO. The resultant TPEs were systematically characterized using various spectroscopic, thermal and mechanical analyses. MS 300-08 test were used to analyze the flame retardant behavior of elastomers. The results indicated that while increasing the composition of phosphorous in the elastomers enhanced flame retardant behavior. |
