Recently, many researches about a substitute material for inorganic antibacterial agents such as ZnO instead of organic antimicrobial agents have been conducted. In this study, we investigated ZnO effect not only as glass composition but also mill addition. The thermal, antibacterial and antifungal properties of ZnO-SiO2-B2O3-Na2O glasses were studied and the antimicrobial activity of ZnO in the form of mill addition was also measured. In order to analyze the thermal properties, the CTE and glass transition temperature were measured by TMA. For investigating antimicrobial properties, antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli (E. coli) was measured using JIS Z 2801 method and for antifungal properties, ASTM G 21 method was used to measure the resistance to five fungi. In this study, we have confirmed that the glass containing ZnO can be used in various fields by measuring the antimicrobial activity of the glass. |
