제목 Electrolytes for high performance lithium metal batteries
초록 Li metal anodes are considered the key advance to realize a high-energy-density Li metal battery (LMB). However, the extremely high reactivity of Li metal anodes toward organic liquid electrolytes and the interfacial deterioration of high-Ni cathodes reduce the lifespan of LMBs. A functional electrolyte technology based on the ability to donate or accept electrons can be employed to construct electrochemically robust interfaces on the electrodes. We demonstrate herein that the use of 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethyl-2,2,3,3-tetrafluoropropyl ether and fluoroethylene carbonate aids the formation of F-enriched interfaces on the electrodes, and thus, significantly extends the applicable voltage range of ether-based electrolytes. The development of interfacial architectures by the optimal formulation of fluorinated compounds is expected to open a new avenue toward the fabrication of both ether- and carbonate-based electrolytes for high-performance LMBs.
