In this study, we synthesized ionomers by a two-step melt condensation between dimethyl 5-sulfoisophthalate sodium salt (DMSIP), diethylene glycol (DEG), maleic anhydride (MAH) and phthalic anhydride (PAH) for application of ion-exchange membranes for CDI process. These ionomers were cured using pentaerythritol (PETA) as crosslinking agent and photoinitiator with UV light. We focused on effect at the different content fo MAH and PAH of ionomers, PETA and photoinitiator. The contents of MAH, PAH, crosslinking agent and photoinitiator were controlled to seek the best performance in terms of basic membrane properties. The chemical structures of the membranes were characterized by their FT-IR spectra. The optimum IEC and water uptake values were 31.87% and 0.73 meq/g, respectively. Proton conductivity was calculated by equation of electrical resistance and the maximum value was 0.019 S/cm. |
