제목 | Catalytic effect of pyroprotein-coated carbon felt for vanadium redox flow batteries |
초록 | Redox flow batteries (RFBs) are promising large-scale electrical energy storage system with high design flexibility and long-term cycle life. The RFBs can be classified by several types according to redox couples used. Among them, vanadium redox flow batteries have attracted much attention due to one of the most remarkable RFBs due to its low ion-crossover, high energy efficiency, and suitable redox potential in both anodic and cathodic region. In this study, pyroprotein-coated carbon felt (P-CF) containing numerous redox-active heteroatoms such as oxygen and nitrogen was fabricated by a simple dip-coating and following pyrolysis process, and we demonstrated that catalytic effects for vanadium-based redox couples were characterized. P-CF showed the smaller oxidation and reduction peak potential separation value of ~170 mV than that (~360 mV) of pristine CF in anolytes, indicating reduced activation polarization. |
