제목 Carbon capture/separation using gas hydrates and flow assurance technology for pipeline transportation
초록 Gas hydrates are crystalline solids of hydrogen-bonded water framework trapping small gas molecules. Hydrates have a great promise for many engineering applications, especially CO2 capture/separation, as they store a large amount of gas and selectively capture CO2 at relatively mild temperature/pressure conditions. The key to realize such a process relies on clear understandings of when, where, how, and how fast hydrates form and melt. Meanwhile, hydrates are rather considered hazardous in pipeline transportation. Undesired formation of hydrates under multiphase flow can significantly disturb the flow characteristics. In particular, CO2 pipeline is often exposed to serious corrosion issues. If such risks are not properly managed, huge expenses for maintenance and recovery are unavoidable. In this talk, lab- and bench-scale experimental approaches to advance hydrates for CO2 capture/separation and to establish risk management strategies for CO2 pipeline transportation are discussed.
