The mixed diesters of two diols, i.e. citric acid and l,4-butanediol, were prepared wherein one of the ester moieties was benzoate. The other moiety was chosen among aliphatic acids. The dibenzoates also were shown to be excellent plasticizers for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin even thoughthose revealed the poor compatibility at lower temperature. Diesters containing an aliphatic alkyl group, and a benzoyl or a short branched benzoyl group were also shown to be compatible plasticizers for PVC resin.The standard criteria for the evaluation of plasticizers were proposed here and the results were reasonably correlated to the real performance of several plasticizers. |
