Polymer solar cells (PSC) blended with a fullerene derivative has been increasing over 11% of power conversion efficiency (PCE). But fullerene derivatives have some disadvantages such as cost, limited spectral absorption and long-term stability. It is necessary to explore non-fullerene electron acceptors that will overcome their insufficiencies. Thus, we designed small molecule acceptor ‘FIC-2’ using two alkoxy side chain and introduced it into the active layer as an acceptor or third component. When electrons-deficient two alkoxy side chains are introduced into the π-bridge of A-D-A frameworks, highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) & lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) are increased and the band gap is maintained. It makes high performance with the benefit of optical compensation and matched well energy levels. Therefore, we can fabricate a device with high Voc by introducing alkoxy side chain effects. |
