Azo-dyes were interesting in the field including dye laser, painting, and textile dyeing. In the previous study, a water soluble azo-dye was developed through a click polymerization. Water soluble-monomer and an rhodamine azo-dye were coupled by a water soluble-polyurethane group. Ortho-substituted carbonyl group of ortho-methyl orange participated in intra-molecular H-bond and color change occurred in lower proton concentration. Most of known azo-dyes sensitive to pH have no response with metal ions. We designed a new azo-dye with better metal binding capability of Rhodamine group. The dye was examined for pH and metal detection. Only copper ion was observed to generate a quinonoid structure of azo dye, inducing a specific color change. Several rhodamine azo-dyes with potential neighboring group effect were prepared, and evaluated for their characteristic metal selectivity and pH sensing. |
