The properties of acrylate copolymers: Effects of molecular weight, composition and functionality |

Pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs) represent a class of materials of great interest in recent years due to their wide application in industry and everyday life. The main property of such materials is that they can adhere to any surface under low (1–10 Pa) contact pressure and short (1–5 s) contact time without any change of temperature or chemical reaction. Such behavior generally results first, from the flow and the establishment of interactions with the substrate (adhesion), i.e. such as material has to be viscous. On the other hand, during debonding the material has to resist certain degree of stress, i.e. an elastic behavior is needed. A series of acrylate-based copolymers were synthesized by free radical copolymerization procedure. The properties of copolymers were investigated depending on the molecular weight, composition, and functionality. The feasibility of resulting copolymers was investigated as a coating resin for prism sheet in LCD back light unit. |
