제목 Graphene-coated high-Ni oxide cathodes for high-energy density Li-ion batteries
초록 Li-ion batteries (LIBs) are globally used to electrify various portable electronics and electric vehicles. The energy storage performance of LIBs highly depends on the electrode material properties and electrode/cell design parameters. Most previous researches have addressed the two aspects separately, leading to a lack of practical implementation. In this work, we show a viable way to improve the energy density of LIB cathodes by conformal graphene (Gr) coating on active materials. This enables minimization of the content of inactive materials, such as conductive agents and binders, and hence fabrication of unprecedentedly highly packed cathodes (~4.3 g cm-3). With 99 wt% LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2 (NCA) and no carbon black, the Gr-coated NCA cathode showed highly improved areal and volumetric capacities by ~30%, as compared to the bare counterpart.
