제목 A Novel Approach to the Solubilization of Carbon Nanotubes in Water
초록 Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have stimulated a significant level of research due to their exceptional properties. The importance of solubilization and functionalization to explore the exciting properties has been also realized. Challenges of accomplishing this goal have been achieved by various approaches such as solubilization by sonication, covalent functionalization of the walls, and π -stacking. Despite these reports, most of the studies were based on sonication and acid-based functionalization, which led to highly damaged CNT surfaces and affects their electronic properties. On the other hand, non-covalent functionalization is the most essential to preserve the sp2-hybridization structure of CNTs and thus their electronic characteristics for possible applications. Here we report a new concept for solubilization producing DNA-wrapped, highly water-soluble carbon nanotubes using a solid-state reaction. SEM studies show that DNA has well covered the CNT surface. The UV-vis spectra with the characteristic DNA absorbance peak at 260 nm and gel electrophoresis confirmed that the DNA of the product is highly stable.
