Amine-based additives were mixed in asphalt to enhance the interfacial bonding strength between asphalt and aggregates. Five different types of additives were used: decylamine, dodecylamine, tetradecylamine, hexadecylamine, and octadecylamine. Before adding the additives in the asphalt, all amines were modified by formaldehyde solution (36 vol.% in water) to form aldehyde end group which can react with the surface of the granite aggregates. The mixing ratios of all additives were maintained to 1 wt.% of the asphalt. The aldehyde end groups of the additives were identified by FT-IR analysis, and a sessile drop test was conducted to measure the work of adhesion between mixed AP-5 and aggregates |
