Long lasting (LLP) strontium aluminate phosphors (SrAl2O4:Eu,Dy) were synthesized by solution combustion and coupled with crystalline graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) by wet impregnation method. The g-C3N4 coated SrAl2O4:Eu,Dy phosphor composites were characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), UV-Vis spectrophotometer and Photoluminescence spectrophotometer (PL). Photoluminescence (PL) spectrum of the nanocrystalline g-C3N4 coated LLP composites exhibited a broadband emission from 450 to 650 nm with peak wavelength at 520 nm. Photocatalytic degradation activity was evaluated with methylene blue and toluene gas under visible light illuminations. The 1 wt% g-C3N4 coupled SrAl2O4:Eu,Dy phosphor exhibited highest photodegradation of MB and toluene gas. This optimum photocatalytic performance at low g-C3N4 concentration as 1 wt% is attributed to the improved catalytic property with nano-graphitic C3N4 and the overall heterojunctions in the hybrid catalyst. |
