Platinum-based catalysts are currently used in many industrial fields such as petrochemical or electrochemical applications. But, due to high price of raw platinum, there is still a demand to develop economic catalysts and their synthetic processes. Recently, liquid organic hydride is considered as one of good candidates of hydrogen storage and source, especially in fuel cell vehicles. The dehydrogenation reaction inevitably needs the promotion by catalysts, in particular, platinum-based catalysts. In this research, we synthesized highly monodispersed carbon supported platinum catalysts to improve catalytic activity of platinum using the galvanic replacement reaction between Pt ions and Cu nanoparticles (NPs) deposited on a carbon support. The investigation on activity and characterizations (ICP-AES, TEM, XPS) of nanocatalysts revealed that the galvanic replacement process endows Pt catalysts with economic feasibility by less use of costly noble metal while maintaining the catalytic performance |
