Continuous carbon fabric reinforced silicon carbide composites (C/SiC) have been attempted attentions for high temperature structural applications, because of their good strength, oxidation protection, and thermal shock resistance. In this study, polycarbosilane (PCS) solution was infiltrated into carbon fabric. PCS/carbon fabric matrix was cured by electron beam irradiation at 10,000 kGy. The cured composite was pyrolyzed by heat treatment in flowing argon at 1,300 oC for 1 hr. The C/SiC composite was characterized by oxidation resistance, porosity, bulk density, and surface microstructure. |
