A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model for Bayonet steam methane reformer (SMR) is proposed for hydrogen production from natural gas. The Bayonet SMR includes the combustor at the center for supplying the reaction heat demand and sleeve shape reactor with catalyst for steam methane reforming reactions. The k-ε realizable turbulence model and discrete ordinates method of radiative transfer equation were employed to the CFD model. The CFD model results were validated with experimental data and other studies on SMR in terms of the temperature profile, producer gas compositions, production rate, heating efficiency, and wall heat flux. Pressure, temperature, flow, heat transfer coefficient, producer gas compositions, and reaction rates were then analyzed. Present design for the Bayonet SMR reactor showed a flatter heat flux comparing to conventional designs in literatures. |
