Since poly(phenylene sulfide)(PPS) consisting of aromatic rings linked with sulfides shows low flammability, thermal and chemical resistance, PPS is used in industrial application fields such as the industrial filtering industry and automotive industry, where the heat and chemical resistance, and electrical properties of PPS can be utilized in many components. However, PPS has some limitations in interior textiles requiring high flame resistance due to low dyeability. In this study, PPS was sulfonated by treating with chlorosulfonic acid in methylene chloride medium to enhance dyeability towards dye. The sulfonation procedure has been optimized by IR studies to establish non-destructive and industrially viable processing methodology. And structural and coloring properties of sulfonated PPS fabric will be studied.
