제목 | Reinforced composite membrane based on sulfonated poly(phenylene oxide) and silica |
초록 | To improve the mechanical properties of polymer membranes, the organic-inorganic combination of sulfonated poly(phenylene oxide) and nano-sized sulfonated silica was employed as a support substrate for fabricating reinforced composite membranes. The effects of sulfonated silica on the composite membrane were examined by measuring various attributes such as water uptake, ion exchange capacity, proton conductivity, and permeability. The increased proton conductivity of the proposed composite membrane can be ascribed to the enhanced hydrophilic properties of the -SO3H functional group present in the membrane. The obtained results thus suggest that the proposed composite membrane can be employed for redox flow batteries and water treatment system applications.
