Microporous polymers are useful for adsorption, separation, and catalysis due to their high specific surface area. However, creating microporous polymers with finely tailored pore size has been challenging as conventional synthetic routes to microporous polymers do not provide a robust control over the pore size. We propose that the pore generation method via block polymer template may be an alternative methodology to microporous polymers with well-defined pore size if the method can be successfully extended to microporous regime. In the study, we discuss our efforts to access such block polymer template based polymerization-induced microphase separation (PIMS), by combining a low molar mass sacrificial component with a high χ monomer and cross-linkers in the block polymer architecture. Effect of the high χ monomer and the molar mass of the sacrificial component in the pore generation will be discussed. |
