The current global warming issue caused by the intensive use of fossil resources lead to the urgent demand on the utilization of sustainable and renewable biomass feedstocks. Furfural can be produced by the dehydration of pentose, which have a versatility to produce fuels and fine chemicals. In particular, the choice of solvent is one of critical factor determining the conversion of furfural and selectivity of targeted products, but the solvent effect on the furfural catalysis mechanism has been rarely discussed. Herein we developed a monometallic cobalt-based nitrogen doped carbon catalyst from ZIF-67 for the study of effect of solvent on furfural hydrogenation. The catalytic data admired by the estimated solvent characteristics, solubility of reactants, activity coefficient of reactant, intermediate and products, effect of solvents on the active cites and adsorption behavior of reactant, and participation of solvent in the reaction pathway. |
