SUPERCRITICAL FLUID FOR STEREOCOMPLEX FORMATION OF POLYLACTIDE |

Stereocomplex polylactide has been known as one of choice to enhance the properties of polylactide. There are many methods to make stereocomplex. But, each method have own limitation. The conventional methods have limitation for high molecular weight of polylactide. The stereocomplex formation of high molecular weight polylactide was observed by supercritical CO2 in the present of solvent. The addition of solvent can increase the stereocomplex formation. We evaluated the processing parameters such as type of solvents, pressures, solvent concentration, temperature, and times. The optimum processing condition for stereocomplex formation was achieved at 30% of dichloromethane, 350 bar and 65oC. Comparing to solution casting method, stereocomplex formation by supercritical CO2-solvent has higher degree of stereocomplex formation and dry product. Significant improvements of thermal and mechanical properties have been assessed for the sterocomplex by supercritical CO2-solvent compare to by solution casting method and their homopolymers. |
