제목 | Synthesis of ion-exchange polymer membranes using supporting membranes for barkish water desalination via capacitive deionization |
초록 | In general, polymermembranes with high ion-exchange capacity (IEC) are not dimensionally stable in water, due to their excessive water uptake. One of the method to overcome such problem is to use a supporting membrane with high mechanical strength. In this study,porous polyethylene (PE)membranes filled with crosslinked aminatedpolychloromethylstyrene (CMPS-PE-I) and sulfonated polystyrene (PS-PE-S) were synthesized via-pore filling polymerization and subsequent chemical modification. Compared to commercially available membranes, CMPS-PE-I and PS-PE-S membranes exhibitedless water uptake (8-10%), higher ion-exchange capacity (IEC) (2.8-3.2 meq/g), and lower electrical resistance (0.3-0.7 Ω.cm2). The synthesized membranes-based capacitive deionization (CDI) cells exhibited performances, similar to those of commercial membranes-based cells. This studyconfirms that the current pore-filling polymerization is one of the finest methods for preparation of ion-exchange membranes with very high IEC,but with low electrical resistance and high dimensional stability. |
