Biofilm formation due to surface contact of bacteria is a problem that occurs in many fields such as the food industry as a cause of food-borne diseases. To solve this problem, we present an illite/polypropylene nanocomposite coating with dual functions of antibacterial and antifouling by solution casting method via phase separation method. It was confirmed that the prepared coating exhibits superhydrophobicity by having a water contact angle of 160 ± 1.6°. It was confirmed that the illite/polypropylene nanocomposite coated surface formed a hierarchical structure due to the micro/nano spheres interconnected by PP, which increased the micro/nano roughness. Compared to the bare aluminum sheet, the surface adhesion of the gram-negative bacteria E. coli and the gram-positive bacteria to S. epidermidis on the coated surface was reduced by more than 99%. In addition, it showed more than 80% antibacterial activity against E. coli and 57% antibacterial activity against S. epidermidis. |
