Melanin is a dark pigment present in nature. In nature, melanin is divided into five types: eumelanin, pheomelanin, allomelanin, pyomelanin, and neuromelanin. Melanin is biodegradable and biocompatible natural material, which has electrical and ionic hybrid conductivity. These characteristics make melanin as an attractive material for bioelectronic devices. However, the spherical structure of melanin nanoparticles , with a diameter ranging 80 to 150 nm, limits the use of melanin as a conductive material at dry-state.. Here, we demonstrate the electrically conductive melanin composite with a conductivity of 1.17 S/cm. The biodegradability of melanin composites is also demonstrated through the ingestion behavior by Zophobos Morios larvae. These results suggest the potential applications of melanin nanoparticles for a bioelectronic devices. |
